This is the third single to be lifted from the ‘Rollerchain’ album, Belleruche’s fourth LP which dropped in May, introducing a more minimal, eccentric and edgy electronic element to their soulful, hip hop-tinged music; taking the band’s core elements – vocals (care of Kathrin deBoer), guitar (Ricky Fabulous) and turntables (DJ modest) – to a new level, and garnering critical acclaim along the way. The two previous singles from ‘Rollerchain’ – “Stormbird” and “16 Minutes” – have had around 200,000 YouTube hits and gained heavy radio support, including a BBC 6Music Rebel Playlist win (the band’s second) for “16 Minutes”, amid a spread of airplay from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huey Morgan, Gilles Peterson and Nemone on 6Music, John Kennedy (XFM), and sessions for The Selector and Monocle 24.

“Limelight” is a gloriously simple, sweet-voiced pop song on which Kathrin deBoer takes centre stage atop a driving beat. By contrast, the AA side, “Longer Days, Longer Nights”, illuminates the more vulnerable and emotional side to deBoer’s lyrics against a darker, languid and lingering sub-bass echoing soundtrack, the suspense ramped up by guitarist Ricky Fabulous’ Wild West-evoking riff, all enticingly winding to a close before the timer hits three minutes. Rising star Walter Ego – recently played by Rob Da Bank and Toddla T on BBC Radio 1, among others – brings a spacey, bassy house attack to album track “Henbane”; and two further remixes, from mysterious underground producers Maurizio F and Lying Teller, twist the album cuts in new dancefloor directions.
